GenOUT Youth Chorus
The GenOUT Youth Chorus is the Washington, DC area’s only vocal ensemble for social justice warriors. Under the direction of C. Paul Heins, GenOUT is an outreach ensemble of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC. GenOUT operates under a two-fold mission: to give LGBTQ+ and allied youth a voice through song, and to connect that voice to community.
The ensemble is open to all singers between the ages of 13 and 18. Since its debut in spring 2015, more than 180 singers from over 80 schools have participated in GenOUT. In Fall 2025, 16 singers from schools in and around the DC area were singing in GenOUT.
In addition to their annual Youth Invasion concert and mainstage shows with GMCW, GenOUT maintains an active calendar of outreach performances, singing at venues such as the Kennedy Center, Washington National Cathedral, the White House, the Library of Congress, GALA Choruses Festivals, and the national conference of the American Choral Directors Association, plus numerous faith communities, schools, and public events around the DMV area. Last year, GenOUT won the Ovation Award in the category of “Proactive Community Outreach” from the Choralis Foundation.
