GenOUT

GenOUT, GMCW’s youth outreach program, empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, youth and their allies (LGBTA), using the mission of the Chorus to create a positive and affirming experience for all audiences, regardless of sexual orientation. The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington delights audiences and champions gay equality with robust artistry, fun and surprise.
LGBTA youth have the hardest time of all of us dealing with the social stigmas and hurtful words and actions from the people they trust the most – peers, teachers and parents. GMCW’s GenOUT program provides FREE and discounted tickets to GMCW shows. The Chorus works with area GSA sponsors and student leaders to coordinate active participation from youth, parents and teachers at area high schools, youth groups and organizations that serve LGBTA youth.
FREE tickets for high school students, their teachers and their parents, through GMCW’s GenOUT program for
The Kids Are All Right, are available now.

GenOUT On-School-Time Programs
A group of select Chorus volunteers dedicated to the prosperity of GMCW’s youth outreach program, GenOUT are available to visit your GSA, organization or club to talk about their involvement in the world’s largest out gay men’s chorus. Chorus members are available for sing-alongs, musical assemblies, or to simply share stories or provide listening, understanding ears to the challenges faced by LGBT youth.
GenOUT Speakers’ Series
GMCW’s Artistic Director, Jeff Buhrman, is a former school teacher with years of experience training teachers and students to be sensitive to LGBTQA issues. Jeff, along with our singers and staff are available to visit to your school, club or church for an interesting discussion about bullying, discrimination, and what it means to live proudly while respecting the differences that make us special.
