One of the fun parts about putting together our GMCW shows is our rehearsals. Sunday night was our final rehearsal for everything gAy to Z prior to moving into Lisner Auditorium on Tuesday morning. The church hall floor was taped exactly the size of the Lisner stage. We had “pretend risers” taped on the floor. The soloists had microphones in their hands (even though they were not hooked up) and we rehearsed the show just like we had an audience.
There are so many people involved in these rehearsals — our singers, our production team, our costume folks, our set folks, our property folks, our dancers and choreographer, and our stagehands. Everyone is on the TEAM to make sure we have the best darn show possible.
AND I KNOW THAT WE DO. everything gAy to Z is a marvelous tribute to the GLBT community. It has an incredible combination of singing, dancing, narrations and videos, that take you on a rollercoaster ride through the gay alphabet. You will laugh, you will be moved, you will cry, and you will be DELIGHTED by this show. Most of all, you will be PROUD that we can celebrate the past 40 years of gay civil rights, gay theater, gay movies, gay television, and especially gay people. We are a fun and quirky group! Our tributes to ATTITUDE, the GYM, the INTERNET, VANITY, and EX’s are NOT to be missed. And the serious moments when we pay tribute to HARVEY MILK, the AIDS QUILT, FAMILY and STONEWALL are affirming and uplifting.
We have over 400 hight school students, teachers and parents already registered to attend the free performance for youth on Friday night, March 20. I’ve been dreaming of this evening for all of my 9 seasons with GMCW. We are so proud to be able to do a performance for this very special audience.
everything gAy to Z is not to be missed. I hope to see you there this Saturday evening and/or Sunday afternoon.
