DIVAS featuring award-winning female impersonator Christopher Peterson

THE GAY MEN’S CHORUS OF WASHINGTON, DC presents DIVAS, featuring the award-winning female impersonator Christopher Peterson.

Washington, DC, May, 2010 — The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington will conclude their 29th season with an extravaganza of singing, dancing and gender illusion to kick off Capital Pride. DIVAS will be performed on Saturday, June 5 at 8 pm, Sunday, June 6, at 3 pm.  The Sunday show will be interpreted in ASL for the deaf and hard of hearing. All performances take place at Lisner Auditorium on the campus of George Washington University, 730 21st Street, NW, Washington, DC.  Tickets are $50, $35 and $20 and can be purchased online at www.gmcw.org, by calling (202)293-1548, in person at The HRC Store located at 1633 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC, or at the door. Group Rates are available.

From Liza to Lady Gaga, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington production of DIVAS features award-winning drag artist Christopher Peterson performing the physical and vocal impersonations of 13 great ladies in entertainment, accompanied by a Chorus of 200 singers.

Christopher Peterson will perform solo selections while impersonating acts by Bette Midler and Bette Davis, Barbra Streisand, Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland, including a number titled “A Garland of Garland” where the artist transforms from Judy Garland into Liza Minnelli while performing a medley of songs. “Believe” by Cher, “Proud Mary”, by Tina Turner and “Vogue”, by Madonna, are two of the many selections where Peterson will be backed by the full Chorus and dancers. The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington will also treat audiences to performances of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, the Motown hit “Heat Wave”, Barbra Streisand’s “Evergreen”, and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”.

About Christopher Peterson

Recent stage credits include, BitchSlap, the story of the feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford during the filming of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, produced by The Water Front Theatre in Key West. He also appeared as Nancy Reagan and Judy Garland in Howard Crabtree’s off-Broadway hit Whoop Dee Doo. Last summer, he enjoyed a sold out show, Las Vegas or Bust, at the new Rehoboth Beach Theatre of the Arts.  Last June, Christopher was part of Stage for AIDS at the National Arts Center in Ottawa, opening as Catherine Zeta Jones from Chicago. For the past three years Christopher has headlined at the Sands Casino in Atlantic City, MGM Grand and Flamingo in Las Vegas. For four summers he has returned to perform at The Atlantic Sands Hotel in Rehoboth Beach. For the past ten years, Christopher has been performing his Eyecons show, a tribute to the great ladies of the twentieth century of show business, at the Crystal Room at La Te Da in Key West Florida. Film credits include the role of Lucille Ball in the motion picture comedy Rat Race, directed by Jerry Zucker, and featuring Cuba Gooding Jr.  In 1995, Christopher was under the direction of Derek Goldby in the production Poor Superman, which opened at The Manitoba Theatre Centre and ran 20 weeks at Canadian Stage in Toronto. Peterson received a Dora Award (Canadian Tony) in the category of Best Performance for his role. Christopher developed his one man, many women, extravaganza entitled Eyecons during a two year stint with the Canadian touring show The Impostors.  The result was another nomination for a Dora Award for best male in a musical review and best musical review of 96/97.

DIVAS is the fifth and final production of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington’s 2009-2010 Season

The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC is one of the area’s most highly respected arts and community service organizations. Its mission is to “entertain through excellent musical performance, to affirm the place of gay people in society and to educate about the gay experience.” It has more than 250 singing members, nearly 100 support volunteers, more than 420 subscribers, nearly 500 donors and an annual audience of approximately 10,000.
